We the undersigned petition Westminster City Council to make good use of vacant properties and land in the borough. More details
We petition Westminster Council to survey and list all vacant properties and land in the Borough that have been empty for 7 years or more. WCC should then use all powers available to redevelop them to benefit the residents. Disused pubs can be turned into homes for larger families, those homeless due to domestic violence, or half-way houses / therapeutic centres for people with addiction problems. Some could be offered to would-be housing co-ops registered with https //ldn.coop/londons-co-ops/housing-co-ops/ Empty shops are usually at ground level so could be turned into accessible homes for people with mobility problems. Empty lots could be turned into much needed homes or public amenities, or used by housing co-operatives. Big buildings such as The Samaritan Hospital on Marylebone road could be turned into accommodation for relevant essential workers. Sustainability & social benefit: All plans would include employment and training opportunities within a framework of environmental and community values, and economic sustainability rather than profit.
