We the undersigned petition Westminster City Council to Keep al fresco in Soho’s streets until a permanent solution is found. More details
The Business and Planning Act 2020 enables local authorities to grant pavement licences and are a platform for road closures, which have been essential to Soho’s survival. We ask the Government to remind Westminster City Council that both the the 2020 Act and recovery go on until September 2022, and to adhere to the official recovery programme, allowing businesses to continue the al fresco scheme until a permanent solution is found. Al fresco has saved Soho’s businesses and encouraged tourism. Don’t stop it now. Soho business needs al fresco to survive but it is also the right thing to do while the pandemic is still very much with us. People and businesses have not yet recovered. Help us to protect customers and staff from the spread of infection by allowing the al fresco option. As winter draws near, we will need outside space.
We want Government to stop the ban on al fresco in Soho and reverse WCC’s decision, either by legislation or Guidance. We want al fresco's future to be considered over a reasonable time and for all voices to be heard.
The government and council should work together to support our route to recovery.
