Petition update from the council, 05 July 2017

Dear Mrs Graham,

Ref: Petition to Not Allow Horse Racing on London Streets

Further to the above petition;

I can confirm that Westminster City Council has no plans to accommodate a Horse Racing event on the streets under its jurisdiction.

As I’m sure you will appreciate I am only able to comment on events held within the City of Westminster. Other areas of London are outside of my remit and as such you would need to direct your petition to other boroughs, councils and for a city-wide response.

I would like to take the time to thank you for raising your petition and trust that this response is sufficient.

Kind regards,

Richie

More details from petition creator

Dear Sir,

We like to brag we are an animal loving nation but we allow numerous race horses to be killed after injury once the cost of healing them has gone beyond the profit margin of the owners. Horses are sentient beings, not a commodity to be dispatched when injured for the purpose of betting and winning cups. We once felt women were a commodity as were black slaves. We (humans) pushed the native peoples of America, Australia etc off their lands. Hunted wildlife to the point of extinction. I would hope in the enlightenment of this century we (humans) would abhor the use and abuse of any sentient being and begin a new course of co existence on this planet.

This may be a long winded way of saying that horses should not be allowed to race on the streets of London but I wanted you to understand my viewpoint and the viewpoint of a growing number of people around the world.

Please interceded and stop this horrid request.

Thank you.
