We the undersigned petition Westminster City Council to turn Berwick Street into an alfresco dining court - permanently. More details
During the lockdown period, the restaurants in Berwick Street were able to set up seated areas outside for alfresco dining. They did so neatly, responsibly and with great success. It is covered when it's wet, well attended and a great way to spend a morning, afternoon and evening in Soho. When I was a resident of Berwick Street I found that the motor vehicle zoning to be questionable, as cars were always performing dangerous turns onto the pedestrian walkways when they were not able to exit the street at the Broadwick Street end. Punters of local clubs also used to come back to their parked cars and make a lot of noise when leaving (music blaring, fighting, and being inconsiderate at all hours of the night) and it felt unsafe (being a woman who lives alone). I can't imagine why the Westminster Council would consider reverting to that mayhem and stopping the successful dining court that has grown organically in the street. Please keep it; it is an essential community hub where we spend time outside, enjoying a fantastic new vibe. Why go from piazza to parking lot?
