We the undersigned petition Westminster City Council to take immediate action to stop buskers causing noise nuisance to residents living in the area around Selfridge's and Bond Street station on Oxford Street. More details
Buskers who use amplifiers and/or loud instruments in the area severely impact residents’ quality of life. Some residents have developed anxiety and health problems as a result of persistent noise nuisance.
The Council should employ measures so that amplifiers, loud speakers, megaphones, and loud instruments are banned where residents can hear them. Fines should be imposed on buskers who don’t respect the rules. Royal Borough of Kensington have implemented rules which mean that busking which causes any noise nuisance is not permitted. Westminster should learn from RBK.
The Council must prioritise lobbying for the introduction of a law to clamp down on Pedicabs. Pedicab drivers cause untold noise nuisance and distress to residents. Noise nuisance from shops, market stalls, and others needs to be clamped down on too.
This is a residential area. Everyone has the right to some peace and quiet.
