We the undersigned petition Westminster City Council to rescind the decision to close St James’ Library in Victoria Street which is due to occur September 2011. More details
St James's Library is a small but busy library that is used by, schools, nurseries, residents, students, workers, tourists and the vulnerable throughout London and Westminster.
Its closure is estimated to save only £357,000 of Westminster's £84M cuts target, which is minute when weighed against the detrimental social effect on Westminster's residents and visitors. The Library’s pivotal role in the community can be illustrated, for example, by the fact that staff members visited schools and nurseries on approximately 70 occasions last year as well as accommodating 170 school and nursery visits to the library.
This Library and its services are essential and must be kept open and maintained
