Petition update from the council, 08 January 2019

Dear Mr Saxby,

I am responding to your petition as listed here http://petitions.westminster.gov.uk/BlockMaysBrexit/.

The Council has not adopted a formal position on the terms of the departure of the UK from the European Union, this includes the Withdrawal Agreement published in late 2018. The Council will therefore not lobby Westminster MPs on the Withdrawal Agreement.

The Council does however support the right of EU nationals to remain in the UK after 29 March 2019 and has been working with the Home Office to provide information to potentially affected Westminster residents to enable them to continue to live and work in the city. In March 2018, Westminster worked with the Home Office to hold the first information event for EU nationals in the country. A second event is being planned for 21 January https://www.westminster.gov.uk/eu-nationals.

Yours sincerely

Richard

More details from petition creator

As residents, workers and students in the City of Westminster where over 69% of voters opted to Remain in the European Union, we call upon the Council to request urgently that the Members of Parliament who represent our borough, Mark Field and Karen Buck, reject the Brexit deal before Parliament. It is increasingly clear that this deal has no credibility and would damage the interests of the people of Westminster.
